Twenty Centuries of Stony Sleep

Story

It has been three years since TCOSS released their last EP "Softened Head" which was recorded with the renowned Lorrie Matheson at Arch Audio. "Winter", the band’s second full-length release, was written and recorded with Charlie Loudowl (Loudowl Studios, Calgary, AB) throughout 2020/2021. "Winter" was mastered by Noah Mintz, at Lacquer Channel Mastering, Toronto, Ontario. This album represents their most dynamic effort to date, with five songwriters, four-part harmonies, and appearances from several guest vocalists and musicians. "Winter" boasts rich sonic experimental sounds that travel between "David Lynch"-esque trippiness, "Black Mountain" dirt sludge, to "Big Thief’s" gut-wrenching emotion. TCOSS continues to refine their sound, proving that making music means creating your own rules.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

"She Dreamed A Drought is a reminder that rock isn't quite dead yet, and that you don’t have to pander to nostalgia to be enjoyable. Or that you don’t need an EDM bass drop or a Drake verse to build a catchy song" - HereIsNoWhy "Circuit Crooks explores themes of what it means to be human and the fine line between sanity and insanity. It stands as a beautiful homage to (Lisa) Hunte." - BeatRoute "TCOSS has often been compared to 'Slanted and Enchanted'-era Pavement, and the comparison is definitely apt." - Avenue Calgary "An impressive sounding band" - CKUA 93.7FM "Feels like the Second Coming of nineties indie rock. You can imagine these guys spending late nights listening to Surfer Rosa, Slanted and Enchanted, and The Lonesome Crowded West." - IMVERYAPE "Their set was loud, noisy, distorted, combining elements of Modest Mouse with the Pixies. Alexi Davis, dressed in a powder blue 70's style suit, was the consummate front-man, promising songs about going crazy and losing your mind." - L.A. Beat "Interesting sound, somewhere between Modest Mouse and Guided By Voices, with hints of Sebadoh." - CKXU 88.3FM "Their textured, detailed and well-constructed indie rock has gained traction, largely on the strength of their songwriting abilities and attention to production values." - BeatRoute "TCOSS has an incredibly eclectic sound, which explores an array of textures and styles - from the angular indie rock of Pavement to the R&B of Earth Wind and Fire to the country rock of the Sadies - while still maintaining its own identity." - The Calgary Herald "Melodically Rich" - FFWD "Interesting and noisy group" - CKXU 88.3FM
