Writing music is my creative outlet and it has always come naturally to me. Producing music, and doing it well, is often challenging, sometimes frustrating and ultimately rewarding when the results are good.
I'd love to make a living from my music. I am pursuing different avenues to try to make that happen.

Not sure I can pick just one. I grew up on oldies and classic rock. I had a very musical household.
Nine Inch Nails, Led Zeppelin, Type O Negative, Smashing Pumpkins, Mac Lethal, Van Halen (classic line up), early Aerosmith, Phantogram, New Order, The Cure. Lots of classic rock, oldies, old school and golden era hip hop, new wave, metal, hair metal and grunge/alternative bands. Too many to list!

No particular message. I just hope there are people out there that enjoy my music. If it makes someone happy or relaxed or pumped up, then that's all I could ask for.

It's a travesty that music is viewed as a commodity. Consumers, especially younger consumers, don't feel they should have to pay for it. Streaming services pay next to nothing and don't seem to care that without us artists, they would have no music for their platforms. It is great that anyone can produce, distribute and promote their own music with the technology we now have. But that is a double-edged sword as the market is now flooded with content and, quite honestly, a lot of it is not very good. This makes it challenging for talented artists to get noticed. Challenge accepted!

I go to as many concerts as possible. If the artist is any good I will support them further by buying their merch.
You need to make great music and be a savvy promoter, marketer and business person. You need to know how to navigate social media but not be solely reliant on it. You need to be realistic, persistent and thick-skinned.
Check out the Electronic Music Alliance, an international collective of indie electronic artists. also, I listen to a lot of indie hip hop. There is a whole era of great music from the mid 2000s that got slept on. Listen to the archives of the Indie Feed Hip Hop podcasts hosted by Dirt E Dutch. He had a knack for finding talented artists that were not well known.
