What is music to you? What does it give you?

Having the ability to compose music enables me to communicate with people on an entirely different level that transcends language and evokes emotions. It defines who I am at the most intimate level.

What is your music dream?

To become the best musician and composer that I am able to be so I can touch as many people as possible with my music.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

A very basic need. Eradicate hunger on this planet. In this age we live in there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to go to bed hungry.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

I was raised in a musical household so that is a very difficult question to narrow it down to one song. Off the top of my head I would say that it was a Cole Porter tune called True Love which my mom and dad would sing to each other.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

With no hesitation I would say The Beatles because they were my biggest influence. George Martin has to be included into that mix as well. Since my principle instrument is piano on the pop side Elton John and Billy Joel. On the classical side, Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. As a songwriter, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and Cole Porter.

What inspires you to make music?

Music is my driving force. As far as inspiration, a college professor taught us that music surrounds us. It is in nature as the animal kingdom is heavy into their own music. It is in everyday sounds, sirens, jackhammers, fog horns etc. I could go on and on. I do not require a specific muse to compose music. It is my id.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

More than ever I feel we need music that is positive in nature and evokes positive emotions and thoughts. Too many of our young people are being slaughtered in their own schools because of negative messages. Many of those have been evoked by music.Music is a very powerful force and we need to be more responsible how we choose to use that power.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Slice of heaven!!!!

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Being an older musician I have lived through some pretty big changes. I can remember when the change from vinyl being the major method of delivery to cartridges being the next and then onto cassettes. There was a time when the industry was panicking because consumers had the ability to make copies and sales plummeted. But we survived that as well as the file sharing. Now we are back to vinyl. Full circle! Musicians have more opportunity than they have ever had to market their music thanks to the internet. As far as improvement, radio needs to open up their playlist and not cater to the major companies constantly. Lots of the music that I hear played on Drooble is as good as any major label act for sure.

What do you think of Drooble?

I am absolutely stocked about it! I am trying to spread the word through my social media accounts as best I ca. It is an amazing outlet for indie musicians and the quality of music is outstanding for the most part. I love the way you have chosen to set it up using the Karma points system really levels the playing field.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I have always believed that radio should be required to devote a large percentage of their playlist to local and regional acts. That way, musicians can make a living. Radio stations are governed by the FCC and thus are under government scrutiny. We all pay our taxes and musicians who pay taxes to those states they reside in should have an opportunity to profit from their music. Enough of pandering to the majors.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

To be honest, I am pretty much a homebody these days. After many years on the road I take delight in spending time with my family. I have three teenage daughters who I have worked with since they were very young. They are called the Treetop Sisters. I write the songs for the toddler set and they record them. I collaborate with various animators to bring them to life. As far as other musicians are concerned, I try to give them some complimentary studio time in my production studio.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Same as ever. You gotta toot your own horn!! Social media is so powerful. Get your music out there and the public will decide what they want to hear. PERSEVERANCE is the key!!

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Wow. There are so many right here on Drooble!! Numan Cole, Slinky Williams, Marrianne Matyash, Best Served Cold and Nick Cody and the Caravan of Dreams come to mind. Drooble radio's top songs playlist is a great way to discover outstanding artists for sure!
