Music is a direct conduit to the soul. There is nothing like music that can directly influence a persons interaction. It can change a bad day to a good one if the right song is played. Writing music allows you to release the images and thoughts trapped in your head. It's truly therapeutic.
In the Past, I wanted to be in a major band and sell out venues, now I'm driven by connecting with people through music.

I love to check out live music. Everything from main venues to open mic nights. Positive feedback to performers and let them know you appreciate it. Life's to short for trolls either online or in person.
Be willing to be open to feedback ( not from the amplifiers) from other musicians and the audience. Just because I want to play a certain song, it doesn't mean an audience will want to hear it. If I write a song, it may be impactful and have meaning to me, but may not translate to meaning for a listener.
