What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music takes me to another place. Regardless of what's going on in the world playing and listening to music brings me joy. Music is my drug of choice.

What is your music dream?

I want to be able to play the music I hear in my head. I'm full of musical ideas and I want to express them.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Get people to understand our differences are trivial and people prey on those trivial differences to divide us so that they may gain power.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

'Hurdy Gurdy Man' by Donovan. I had the 'Donovan's Greatest Hits' album when I was 3 and absolutely loved that album!

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

I like classics like The Beatles, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, Steely Dan, Joe Walsh, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Rush. I dabble in metal but especially like Metallica and Iron Maiden. I dabble in jazz too but since I played trumpet in school I tend to get into the horn players such as Miles Davis and Chuck Mangione. On that note I dig any band with a strong horn section! More recently I've been getting into Radiohead, Wilco, and Daft Punk.

What inspires you to make music?

Love, stress.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I'm not about messages, I'm about feel. I like making music that makes you happy and want to dance, music to groove to or even make love, music to soothe your soul and calm you, and music that helps you think about the big questions in life. I believe all that can be achieved sonically - lyrics are used to accentuate or enhance the feel.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I don't have a lot of live playing experience outside of playing in band when I was a kid. I'm nervous when preparing for the performance and practice, practice, practice until I get everything perfect. I then enjoy the actual performance. I do a lot of public speaking as part of my day job so I don't suffer from stage fright.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

It seems like it would be difficult to make a living through music. Everybody wants everything for free. Moreover people don't appear to like live music like they once used to - and this is what needs to change. We need to bring humanity back to music - real flesh-and-blood musicians, real instruments, real audiences and all the imperfections that go along with it. Promoting and appreciating live music will allow musicians to make a living through music.

What do you think of Drooble?

It's a neat idea. We'll see!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I don't have the chops to play what I hear in my head. I'm getting there though - every day brings me a step closer! Once I get there what then? I suppose then I'll have to start mastering recording and making full compositions. There's always more to learn!

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I love live music and I support venues featuring live music. We have a strong craft beer scene in our community and many of them promote local musicians. Live music and good beer - that's a good combination!

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Be yourself. Play what you want to hear, not what you think others want to hear. It's a long-tail market.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.
