As a little boy I would observe my parents friends hanging out, laughing, playing music and like every little kid i wanted to be a part of the party. There was this one particular friend who would come around and bring an acoustic guitar, he would never play anything i herd and i remember latterly rocking on my couch with my one ear bud connected to an AM radio listen to RKO. So i knew most familiar songs from the 70s and one night I asked him if he could play “Board Walk” and I started to chant the words, needless to say they all laugh and say “how cute” but robin paused and said “you can’t get royalties from covers". I was confused, I asked him what he meant by this statement and he replayed “do you want to play?” I gave a enthusiastic YES! he handed me his guitar and showed me a simple 4 note scale, he told me to keep the guitar and when he comes back next time and i learned those 4 notes I could keep it. When he returned I had my first song written with those 4 notes, he was so impressed and told me to keep writing. Most every musician learns covers. It can be heard in the "originals They write" The originality of the new stuff i hear all sounds like someone else.
Love it GREAT IDEA! its a face book of sorts for musicians
most are "gods" in there own mind. Most do not want you to take the spot light and its a cut throat business.
yes I always give support to all local artist not doing cover songs
Be original ! although the money is in cover songs.
