Shawn Peery

Story

I've risen and fallen several times throughout the years trying to pin down a music project that I could be happy with, I'm halfway tired of writing Electronic Dance Music (although I still enjoy and write it), I decided to go back and focus more on my guitar and vocals and really let loose hence "Flood Light Emotions". Flood Light Emotions was an idea that came about by the raw, obvious exploitation of personal emotions that get brighter and brighter like a flood light shining in the dark of the night full of uncertainty and a climaxing of depressing and scary world events and personal failures and standstills.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music gives me hope, love, spirit, oneness, clarity, and one big drugless high. It gives me a chance to unload and release the stressful pressures of the world around me and gives me a voice when I otherwise can't speak.

What is your music dream?

To keep making music until I can no longer do it. It's not about being a huge success in other people's eyes, but being happy with what I can do, be happy learning new things, perhaps share a message with others and hope they can gain something insightful out of it.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Everyone knowing the truth about God and the plans laid out for the future that involve God and how its all going to be alright soon once the darkness passes on and everyone can see and believe the same. I realize everyone has their own beliefs and faiths and I respect that, but this is what I've learned about my faith and I have to share it and perhaps others will find and cherish the same faith. So my music in a very huge way reflects the principles I've learned and hold although I'm still largely imperfect as is everyone else. I want people to know you can have your faith, stay close to the spirit and still have fun and do the things you love...if it's pure and reasonable.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

I rememeber being 9 years old and riding around in a Maroon Chevy Nova in '95 and Bushs' song "Everything Zen" came on the radio and that song stuck with me ever since.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Theres a huge list, but off the top, Sevendust, Polarity, All The Remains, Breaking Benjamin, and A Dozen Furies.

What inspires you to make music?

Everything. The world, the people in it, the events that unfold on a daily basis, pure love for music, stress, happiness, boredome, etc...

What is the message you want to send with your music?

A spiritual one. A message of desperation and struggle in such a dark world, we all feel the heat of such dark imminent times and we need each other, we need truth and one spirit.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Nervous, stoked, hopeful, relieved.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Their sense of fame, riches, and secular activities. Their manner of speak, their attitude. It all needs to change. We live in a time when music is so "erotically charged", lacking wholesome and genuine messages, and teaching the world how to not care, normalizing extremism, and immorality. There are no lines between right and wrong anymore and it seems a lot of that lifestyle centers around our popular music of today.

What do you think of Drooble?

I like it. Its different. a lot of great people on here.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Going back to that question about what I'd like to change, the way people approach music in the popular sense. adding to that, there are a lot more covers and remixes and less original songs. Many "bootlegs" out there and artists pretty much manufacturing the same song and rhyme.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Definitely. I'm a little picky about what i support, but when I do find some Artist or band that has their head on their shoulders and is 100% pure in their art, I support that fully.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Thats a tough one. Many things have been tried and some true while others counter-productive. You almost have to play the whole field and see what works for you best. The standards set now versus what it used to be, theres a lot of Bands but less that actually come through with their whole mind, body and soul and live to play it out with substantial results. For an artist like me, I'm solo. have been for many years. It's a little harder because I'm broke and I don't have much support. I have my own theories as to why I'm so hit and miss but, yeah.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Polarity (Toronto-based) Rock band, Erase The Frontier (Texas metal), RMRS (San Antonio Rock Band)
