A Tale of Two Studios

I worked hard on these and thought someone should hear them. The Cave where the basic tracks to the majority of these songs were recorded. Between 1978 and 1983. The first "Cave" was a huge basement in Ann Arbor. The house was classified as a bomb shelter and was pour reinforced concrete. It was a lively room. Sometime in the time period The Cave moved to Westland. That room was relatively dead with a furnace near by. I was the chief engineer and producer for those to location during that period. Although the equipment owner sees it differently, I have a confession from him on tape from a session he decided to not include me in and he was flustered by the problems with the mix and equipment. I would love to post that. I was there to help Ron with his Demos. We did that and because he insisted on mixing alone he never got the things right and continued to complain that that never sounded right. HOWEVER, I have a mix I made f the frst four track, which were the primary problem for him, that sound great. Sharp crisp lively. Then I have his mixes with vocal track and a keyboard string synth and they turned into mud. Check his LinkedIn profile he claims responsibility for chief engineer etc. Given the outcome of his demos he can have that. Mine as you can hear are fine. The only issue I had was with the ride cymbal and the missing chunk and crack that made an awful racket when used to heavily. Which was about the only way we knew how. I found myself getting less and less studio time in Westland Ron brought in more and more musicians to form his band. I was being dis-included. Until one day I was handed a box of tapes and all my mics and other stuff I had brought to help. I think he mentioned my attitude. I was baffled and confused. I didn't understand why. However my guess would be the pint of Cheap Scotch that he consumed every night didn't help. I drank but not like that. I quit about 18 years ago altogether. So two things, I didn't listen to Ron telling me GRAND MASTER was the best. NOT THEN IT WASN'T. I don't have to bake my master to use them, and because I don't it's easy to transfer my masters to digital and finish what I started. I finished what I started starting in about 2002 - 20??. It is ongoing. I have about 4 songs to upload that I must add vocals to to finish. Everything is nicely copied at 96khz 24 bit. I have two 4 track reel to reels both Teacs two models. One is going to end up a parts machine. They all use the same motors and circuits and Teac was like that. So, now we are mostly up to date. One more I'm everywhere First off, all three songs and most of the songs on reverbnation were written, performed and produced by myself unless stated. Mixed and recorded by myself. I also engineered all of mine and the studio owners who complained all the time. I was lucky to get an hour to record my stuff. I could go on BUT... Most of the originals were started in the late 1970's on a 4 track Teac reel to reel then updated digitally in the early 2000's. Keep some elements and added a bunch new. Some of the original 70s-80s recordings appear on reverbnation. There would be more material here if I didn't need to spend $100 a year for more uploads. I'm done performing these are here for you all to enjoy anyway you want. I appreciate the people that wanted to pay for them. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. It's not that I don't need the money. Setting up the whole monetization is over my pay grade. What blows me away is the songs you all chose to play. I love Try Again, But it's personal. One Lifetime was written when I was around 14, No Way, like Try Again, is another break up song. The stuff just flowed out of me.My heart was broken. Now back to my ABOUT section already in progress Same old story with a new set of words, Garage bands, bigger things for a minute then TEAC 3440 which most of my tracks were recorded on. UPDATE digitally in the early 21st century. I have had and been in a band since 1969 until the late 1990s. In the 1980's. jamming and having fun was all I wanted to do. And I have some video of that. Unfortunately, that night was not as much fun as usual. My friend and I had some fun in the late 70's recording songs we wrote together and apart. It was a ball, but something happened, I don't know what it was but it was over. He hasn't spoken to me since. Got my first computer specifically with the intentions of finishing what was left undone or fixing what we couldn't with the limited analog equipment. Most of the songs I stripped down to the drum track and started over. You wouldn't recognize the originals. I'm pretty much done playing now. I'm open to happy things happening. But I have no anticipation of that being so. I worked hard on these and thought someone should hear them.
