What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is the air the spirit breathes. Without music the spirit shrivels & dies...

What is your music dream?

To have listeners who genuinely enjoy appreciate & recognize what I’m doing in my music … I feel I have a unique sound & style that results from all the different kinds of music I love

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

What originally got me engaged with music as a child was hearing Ravel's Bolero, played by Leonard Bernstein & the NY Philharmonic

What inspires you to make music?

I think the notion of “inspiration” commonly held in the minds of non-artists is rather a mythology. The pieces I make are motivated strictly by the musical ideas themselves, and their possibilities for transformations & interrelationships, not by sunsets or rainbows or pictures of starving children in Guatemala … what excites & motivates me to create music is hearing other great music, and the musical ideas that spontaneously come to me.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

My pieces are only “about” the musical ideas in the piece - any extramusical suggestions are something in the psychology of the listener, an epiphenomenon that arises after the fact of making the piece, not by design. I too will have imagery suggested back to me by a piece of mine as I listen to it, but it’s amazing how much the associations vary between different listeners.
