Story

The Synth Lord is the solo project of veteran music producer/artist, Juan “Punchy” Gonzalez, who is best known for his album production work with artists like Morbid Angel, Diabolic, Christian Death, and Unholy Ghost is also the creative mind behind music groups Diet of Worms, Cosmic Punch, and Lover of Sin. Outside of his work as a studio engineer/producer, “Punchy” has also directed and edited music videos for Nile, Christian Death, and Krisiun as well as his own musical projects. He plays all the music, sings all the vocals, produced, engineered, and even created all the visuals for this project. He is a one-man wrecking crew/freight train! He is a proud endorser of Magix software like Vegas Pro and Samplitude Pro X, Positive Grid software (Bias FX), Dean Guitars, and Music Group (Behringer/Midas).

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is a way to lose money and have fun doing it. Music gives me the opportunity to want to buy more equipment that becomes obsolete in six months.

What is your music dream?

To win Grammys in more than one category/genre, achieve world fame, and buy a Delorean.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Raising the international IQ by banning certain types of influences that celebrate ignorance and stupidity.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

This is an unfair question as many songs have created great memories. I would say that Queen probably was the band that created a rock star mythos for me that is impossible to live up to.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Any artist that does not make quiet/somber music. Any artist that uses musicianship to achieve their goals. Any artist that DOES NOT drops "N-bombs" due to lack of creativity. Any artist that sings melody lines instead of arpeggios.

What inspires you to make music?

Boredom of what is already available.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

All shall bow down to the might of The Synth Lord! If you don't like 80s music, then you have no taste! ;)

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Happier than when I am watching someone else do it.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The world would be better if we could just get some more musicianship in music again. If only I ruled the world....

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I go to shows and listen to the artists on streaming sites while systematically ignoring anything that is on MTV now, ignoring any male artist that wears sandals in public, and ignoring any artist that feels the need to utter "N-bombs" due to a lack of creativity and talent.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Lots and lots of money.
