Peter Glass

Story

I joined my first band in 8th grade, The Marauders. We played surf music. My best friend asked me to join though I didn't know how to play guitar. After school I went over to his house and he taught me chords and progressions. After one week I played my first gig. That was over 50 years ago. I’ve been in lots of bands since; some were successful, most not. Almost all of them played some original music. I played rock & blues from the 60s to the 80s. Then I joined a Welsh folk band. In the 2000s I joined Crookshank, a Euro folk band. Their album can be streamed on Spotify. All the songs posted under my name are originals. “Give Away” is my only album . Most of my music just doesn’t fit a genre. I call it “Adult Contemporary”. “Fat Donald” is pretty much R&R with virtual brass. “I’m Yours, You’re Mine (Tonight)” has mixed meter, oddball chords, virtual horns and orchestration. It’s so peculiar I don’t know if I should be proud or embarrassed. Moscow Mitch is a political song which will hopefully damage Mitch McConnell's reelection bid. White Tuxedo is an orchestrated baroque sounding tune. If you want to hear something dissimilar from most other tunes let me suggest you listen to my stuff if you’re bored because everything sounds like everything else. What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is a creative outlet. It is a deep expression of inner thoughts, feelings, motivations and yes, inhibitions. Music gives me both joy and frustration.

What is your music dream?

I'm old, I'm 73. I have no aspirations to be a superstar. In fact, the idea of going on the road and living out of suitcase does not appeal to me at all. However, I do hope to establish a solid following on Spotify and generate a meager income from streaming. Please follow me. If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Trump and his entire clan in prison.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Oh my . . . when does childhood begin? When does it end? Maybe a TV theme song, possibly the theme from Mighty Mouse . . . Here I come to save the day, Means that Mighty Mouse is on his way . . .

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

This is an impossible question. The answer shifts about daily, but for sure you could put The Beatles in there, Steely Dan would have to be a member of my favorites. The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, The Band, Van Morrison, Queen, Supertramp and the more bands I list, the more I remember that I should list. This is a hopeless task and a terrible question . . .

What inspires you to make music?

The fact that I'm old. I've already lived most of my life. If I don't get it down now it will go to the grave with me.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Pay attention. Music can be physically stimulating and make you want to move your body, but it can also move your mind. I write both kinds of music.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

As a soloist, I get self conscious when performing my songs. It's a dilemma. I don't think I'm a good singer (the songs posted here have been tuned with Melodyne). But, my songs are unlikely to ever get covered in that most, maybe all of them are not destined to be wildly popular. So I struggle with this.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

In many ways being a musician today sucks. It's incredibly hard to make money from making music so you have to market a bunch of trinkets and sweatshirts or whatnot in order to make a living as a musician. That sux! Look at Drooble. Is anyone here making money from their music? If so, it's not coming from Drooble. How did we get to a point such that your music does not provide an income?

What do you think of Drooble?

I don't know what to think of Drooble at this point. I have more songs that I want to post to an album that only partially populated due to lack of points, but I've found that new songs do not inherit artwork from the existing album. will not allow you to add new art and won't allow you to get radio play without artwork. This is extremely annoying. I've complained to the Drooble team more than once, but to date, no remedy. I also find it annoying that there's no "Home" button in the menu bar. I find a lot of the site navigation is not very user friendly or intuitive. Drooble could benefit from hiring a web designer (or a new one if they already have such a position filled). It looks like it was designed by a bunch of amateurs. Probably musicians who think web design is no big deal.
