Paul Whitwam

Into music from age 12 ,played harmonica and trumpet until I picked up a guitar at 14 (god ,bin playing 52yrs!!)

My musical world now is a 9ft by 9ft cube of a room converted from a subterrainean garage . (Soundproof!!) Though its a iMac , Logic pro X based studio , I don't use samples or loops . Just my 5 guitars and 4 basses. The drums are in Logic, which I play on the keys . I write all my own stuff and sing it. Just a fantastic pastime. Recently I have had collaboration with songwriter Rick Arnst in the States, producing and playing on his songs ,which has been a great experience . I try to aim for a band sound in my recordings as thats the era I'm from ,and the genre I'm into. Hey lets all enjoy the gift we have been given!!

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Hard to describe, if its in you ,it never leaves. the one constant in my life

What is your music dream?

Never played a stadium full of adoring fans. God that must be a buzz!

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

If we eliminated corruption ,and swapped it for benevolence, no-one would go hungry

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

First record I bought "Return to sender" Elvis Presley (Cracking b side "Little Sister")

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Stevie Wonder , Steely Dan , Tower of Power, Clapton, Level 42, Bonnie Rait

What inspires you to make music?

Just getting a groove going in my head. The words come later.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Not sure I have one, just hope people enjoy it. Mine is just the usual stuff , love lost, love gained!

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

There's nothing like the buzz, when they're with you

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

The game has changed so much , and I think for the better. Technology has enabled virtually anyone to create music and let the world here it. There's probably more home studios than clients these days. Improve , I don't know. Everyone wants to be heard amongst the millions, but I guess sites like this have got to help!

What do you think of Drooble?

Early days I suppose , but a great concept . getting like minded musos talking and maybe collaborating together.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Some of the EDM is musical and clever, some is banal and the musical equivalent of getting your head kicked in. I despair at the thought of many studios having no instruments ,and few musicians. (Whooops , way too cynical!!)

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Yes , a good live scene in Cornwall . Lots of organic festivals and bands in pubs. I check out bands and get a beer on a regular basis!

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I know I aint got it! Charisma . A song thats a real ear worm that you can't stop humming. A fair portion of luck!

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I think everyone will know the artists I know . Sorry !
