Pamala Thomas

Singer/Songwriter/Ghostwriter/Author

Words is my deal! Emotions. Feelings. Thoughts. Ideas. Creation I'm always in creation mode. Whether I am writing a song, a poem, a novel or just logging a journal...I am writing. I write while I am driving. I write while I am cooking. I write while I am sleeping. Big on titles and big on lists. Big on expressions. Big on watching other people's expressions. I analyze everything. Big imagination Big heart I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother and a sister to an older brother who shares the love for music and writing with me. We grew up close and our outlet has always been writing. Big on issues in my songs and big on letting suppressed feelings out in your words. Good for the soul stuff. I am married to a wonderful musician/vocalist who is the one who wrote all the music and played the guitars in our songs. I write the songs and he turns them into a magical experience! His background with music: He taught himself to play by ear and has been playing since he was a young child. His daddy played and it rubbed off. His family were all into music and he taught himself to sing harmonies too. He has stunning harmonies! I was looking to hire a lead guitarist in a band. I met him and hired him on the spot! I tested him with what I thought was impossible. I stood there and just started singing every song I knew. He jumped right in and played guitar to every one of them. We have been in two bands together and played every weekend (Friday and Saturday) straight for over a year with our first band. We stayed booked all over; locally. We have stepped away from playing in bands, but it is always in the back of our minds. His goal is to do smaller venues, acoustically with a few people and mix that with some really great vocals and harmonies. But the feeling of being in a full band....there is nothing like it and I am always open to the idea with the right people!

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Release. Freedom. Satisfaction. Story-telling. Peace

What is your music dream?

My dream at one time is different than today. I always had a dream since I was little to just spend my life doing what I loved....singing. But, with life; comes a hectic schedule and beautiful children to raise. My dream now would be to sing for pleasure and travel; playing at little cozy places and venues. Real people and friendships.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Get rid of crime Get rid of power-hungry lost souls Feed the poor and shelter the homeless

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Jeanie C Riley: Harper Valley PTA album! She was my very first introduction to a female singer. I was tiny and in grade school....1st-4th grade. I was given a project by a music teacher to sing a song in front of the class. Picture a tiny little second grader singing a Jeanie C Riley song! I chose "Run Jeanie Run" and I played out the hand motions for words while I sang the entire song. I didn't know any better. It's the songs I knew. What a grown-up song to sing! I knew her entire album and knew every word. My teacher was blown away. Next thing I knew she had me singing in front of the school . Went on to sing her songs for the rest of my life. Imagine a tiny girl singing the songs on that album: Harper Valley PTA, Sippin Shirley Thompson, Louise: a song about killing a lover's lover. My second real influence was Olivia Newton-John and Marie Osmond. Knew all of Olivia's songs (except the disco type) My brother had the biggest collection of albums and 45's than anyone I have ever known. So, I had a lot of influences and we sang them all together.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

I still have many oldie time favorites. Through the years, my taste has stayed the same and changed. I never even knew Bonnie Raitt until the last few years and what I have missed out on all my life! Love Bonnie Raitt. Not only her voice, but her excellent skills at guitar. Stevie Nicks is a new favorite for me. Adore her stuff! Rebecca Lynn Howard . Julie Roberts . Eva Cassidy . I went through the Martina, Shania and country artists stages for years. John Denver is an all time fav. Bob Dylan for his amazing writing. The Eagles (of course). Blackberry Smoke Charlie Starr Chris Stapleton Earl Thomas Conley

What inspires you to make music?

Experiences Watching the world live Pain and endurance

What is the message you want to send with your music?

To express your pain in words and song because it needs to be released.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Great! It is an awesome thing to be on stage and to look out and see people listen and sing along. Love vocals and harmony being sung as back-up with me. Get lost in it.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Um... Mixed feelings. Music has died. Music has evolved all at the same time. We miss the bands we grew up with. Yet, we are seeing some wonderful talent and some people sharing feelings through their music more than ever. I like that. The rules have changed...there seems to be none. Most of the music I listen to is the artists that are not doing videos on TV and big name stars. To me, they are doing it right … their way. They are traveling, taking care of their own business and not selling their souls to be big. Groups like Blackberry Smoke. Love them! Great to see in person and they seem to own themselves. Playing it smart. As far as improvement I am not sure. Just let it keep playing!

What do you think of Drooble?

New to the site and so far it seems like it will be a lot of fun.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

When you are trying to get a band together and getting everyone to love it as much as you do.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Locally where I am, there is not much to do here. Planning on moving out to Arizona in the future and will be involved in music like never before. Love going to venues.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Pure voice and crisp, clean music. Commitment and love for music and what you are doing

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Eva Cassidy was one that would have owned the world. She died before she really was known that much. If you have never heard her voice ...go and google her. She was as perfect as it gets. Songbird . Imagine .
