Story

I'm a man madly in love with God, and those His son - Jesus Christ died for. I live to share the Good News that Jesus died to take away our sins, and that He is risen from the dead! I was a wild, rebellious young man, in love with the world, and himself. Drugs, and life in the fast lane brought me to a place where I knew, there has to be more to life than the one I'm living... I decided to surrender my life to Jesus Christ and my life has never been the same. Now my life is filled with peace, joy, and purpose. My music is just a small part of who I am as a human being. I'm first and foremost a follower of Jesus Christ, and then a husband/father/brother and a singer/songwriter is somewhere in that mix... I know millions of people have been listening to my songs, and many have written me to tell me how a song of video has connected with them. That is for me - more important than money, or music awards that may come my way. At this time I'm working on my 9th CD of songs/Fool For Christ which should be released sometime this year/2019. I'm involved now with GODSONGS recording studio here in Michigan, as a producer and engineer doing Christina music of all genres exclusively. Finally, my wife and I oversee Light in the Dark Ministries /lightinthedarkmins.com We do prison/jail/detention, and homeless ministry; and I'm assisting in leading praise & worship at our home church - The Bridge.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

A gift from God to be used creatively for the purpose of glorifying God, and bringing people to Jesus Christ. And I might add, to have some fun in the process...

What is your music dream?

To one day play music in heaven with other brothers & sisters who want to sing praises and worship God before the throne. I'm already living it down here.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

The love of Jesus Christ ...

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

I'm still thinking about that?

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Journey, Jimi Hendrix, The Yardbirds, PETRA, The Moody Blues, Third Day, Cream, The Doors, The Kinks, Bob Segar, Johnny Winters, Muddy Waters, John Mayall , Mercy Me, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Jefferson Airplane, Rich Mullins, Keith Green, Andrae Crouch, and countless others...

What inspires you to make music?

God, life, death, my wife and family - everything around me and inside me - my past - my present - and my yet to be -future! In a word - EVERYTHING!

What is the message you want to send with your music?

JN.3:16 - God is love - proved it by sending His son to die for our sins on the cross. If that wasn't enough - He sealed the whole thing by rising from the dead. Oh - there's much more of course - but that's the essence of all my songs.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

It depends. Every audience is different like people. They all have a certain personality or mood that seems to be in the auditorium or room. Rowdy, a little on the serious and somber side - but one thing is always the same - People love music and lyrics that relate to their lives. Having fun while sharing the pain and heartaches that we all experience is a delicate balance - but a great song can do just that. I feel totally connected to the people I'm singing or playing in front of - it's a chemistry that words cannot adequately describe. The better question today might be: How do you feel knowing that millions of people are listening to your music - and you don't know who they are? That is the flip on the Old School of having to be in front of an audience to feel connected... With today's technology - a singer/band/musician can connect to people on the deepest level - and never leave his or her home. Amazing!

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

It would be nice if more people involved in the music realm were not so focused on making money or "will this sell?" When we take our hearts and minds off of the money side of music, we are free to really create music that is not designed to be marketed or sold, but instead - change hearts and minds and go places that others may not have even thought of...

What do you think of Drooble?

I think it's new to me, so honestly - I don't have an informed opinion yet. It looks professionally designed, and user friendly. So in a few weeks I will have a better idea of whether it's a worthwhile place for people to promote and listen to music.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Knowing that a relatively small group of people control what people listen to and buy - though that is changing through the power of the internet and independent labels, etc. The mediocrity and predictable sounds that are piped on mainstream radio and t.v. are often boring and so bland that it keeps many people leaving the radio off. Or - they are searching high and low for music that is fresh and new sounding... that is frustrating.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

Yes. I promote bands, singers/songwriters, and musicians on my Facebook pages, and in conversation with others.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Creative energy and passion that abhors mediocrity and sameness! A willingness to experiment and try new sounds & ideas that push the boundaries - and to go it alone or where few go even if the money doesn't follow that path. I think "deeper" may be a better goal than larger or bigger, when an artist is trying to reach more people. With so many artists & bands in the mix, it may be wiser to find a smaller segment of people on the planet who love your style and music - and go really deep into that audience. Then if that is established - you can begin to go "wider" - and spread out to more people with your songs and message...

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Ben Thomas , Tommy Carlton, Chad Jenner ... 3 men that have the whole package. They write/compose the music/sing/arrange and write their own lyrics. It just so happens that I happen to work with all of them in creating awesome music.
