Born and raised just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Lou began his professional career at the age of 13, and has been performing in one fashion or another for many, many years. A well-seasoned, personable entertainer, with a style reminiscent of the late Harry Chapin, Lou possesses the uncanny ability to draw an audience into his music. Whether performing for a handful of college students in an intimate coffee house, or entertaining hundreds as the opening act in a night club setting, Lou magically transforms his story-songs into real life emotion, allowing his audience to become an integral part of each performance.
Music is one of the purest forms of expression. It gives me the opportunity to express what I am feeling, while at the same time, hopefully ignites similar feelings in the listener.
Just to be heard, and hopefully appreciated for my craft.
Ensuring that our children are instilled with the values of hope, decency, fearlessness, love fro one another, and creativity. The rest will take care of itself.
All My Lovin' by the Beatles. It was the first song they played in America (on teh Ed Sullivan Show) and at that moment, at that early age, I wanted to learn to play guitar.
Harry Chapin, C,S,N,&Y, James Taylor, Beatles, Eagles, Bob Seger, I could list dozens more...
As a songwriter, most of my music comes as a result of personal happenings, relationships, dramatic or emotional events, life's little (and big) moments.
Emotion. I want the listener to be drawn into the songs I sing, become a part of the emotion of the song - whether that be joy or sadness.
Always just a bit nervous - as one should be. But it does not take long to tell if the audience is into you - and if they are - it feels so special and rewarding to be a part of something where people are listening, and showing they are part of your performance - whether by the tap of a foot, applause, singing along....
I'm old school - I grew up in an era where real bands - rock, blues, polka (yes, polka) - were playing in clubs and bars all over the cities and towns near me. And I watched that disappear over time and then it was DJ's everywhere - putting us musicians out of work for the most part. But now the internet has in a way, saved us as we now have unlimited outlets of expression - but we have to make our own success. Improvement - tough one - but Drooble is certainly one example of improving the musician's reality through the community and services it offers...lots to come...
Just on for about a month - so far I really like it - especially having the ability to have other musicians and music lovers listen to, comment, and/or review your music.
Lack of live music venues in my area of the country.
Absolutely. I am an avid concert go-er to the large venues - and while I complain that there are not enough live music venues out there - I am constantly attending small shows or singer songwriters at some local bars - and for those, I never leave without dropping a few bucks in the tip jars as well.
As always - belief in oneself, fortitude, and certainly computer and internet skills are a must today in this business.
Keller Williams is a good start.
