Kevin Bennett

Story

I been playing keys since I was five years old. When I learned theory vis-a-vis the circle of fifths, it opened up the world for me. I'm also a comedian and novelist. My comedy name is "French Accent", I was on America's Got Talent for my comedy in 2018, and my novels are "Amphibian" and "The Thief and the Sacrifice". "Thief" isn't available anymore; the publisher folded and I'm looking for a new one--but you can find a free galley copy online if you go to my FB page for the book of the same name.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is cathartic, inspiring. Isn't it that from which we derive the term "muse"? It is holy, it is spiritual, it is entertaining, it is hypnotic, mind-enhancing, and core to humanity. Even the tone-deaf sing when none can see.

What is your music dream?

I just want to make enough money doing that at which I'm skilled to produce what I hear in my mind.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

myself

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Come Sail Away, Styx

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Styx, Pink Floyd, Jim Croce, The Moody Blues

What inspires you to make music?

My soul. Life. Emotion. Sadness. Happiness. Joy. Anger. Confusion. Restlessness. Desire.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

The Truth.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Excellent.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Nobody knows musical theory, nobody knows how to play actual music, everybody relies on electronics, these days everyone just sings karaoke to tracks they recorded in a studio. Music today blows dogs for quarters, to quote "Detroit Rock City".

What do you think of Drooble?

Don't know yet. We shall see.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I'm skilled. I'm broke. Politics define the atmosphere over skill and authenticity. Record labels are demonic, indie efforts aren't that far removed, and who does well isn't who should.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I live in an RV and travel. I liked the Fort Collins scene, where I started getting traction. I don't know what to make of the L.A. scene presently.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Beats me. I do everything I can and nobody knows me from Adam.
