Keith Rice

Old guy wanting to play for fun!

Took up bass 3.5 years ago, having never played an instrument in my life - despite hanging around musicians and bands most of my life and having done a little rock journalism. (Big influences: Jefferson Airplane's Jack Casady, Jefferson Starship's Pete Sears). Wanted to be good enough to play in a band for my 65th birthday - which I did in December 18. See profile/cover photos. The band was made up of friends who played and/or sang. On keys was Eddy Spence of Gordon Giltrap and Glitter Band fame. My bass tutor Owen Griffiths played rhythm guitar - he's toured with The Blacklisters and Pulled Apart By Horses. Now looking either to join a band or form my own, playing classic rock/R&B. For fun and maybe gigging if opportunities arise. Have smallish Sub-Zero PA system with 4-input mixer powerful enough for pub-level gigs. Also have Zoom H4n Pro handheld recorder. Set list for 65th set list gives an idea: Back In The USSR (Beatles), Walking The Dog (Rufus Thomas/Stones), Brown-Eyed Girl (Van Morrison), Dead Flowers (Stones), Love Me Do (Beatles), Mustang Sally (Commitments version), Ticket To Ride (Beatles), Eight Days A Week (Beatles), Hey Joe (Hendrix version), Sunshine Of Your Love (Cream), White Room (Cream), All Shook Up (Elvis) and Should I Stay Or Should i Go (Clash).
