Keith Brooks - Solo Projects and Collaborations

I write and record original material and at times may throw in a cover. I have been in music since around 1960. I have played lots of different genres professionally but I prefer classic rock and country. I toured Germany for a USO Tour playing heavy metal, toured the eastern U.S. playing R & B and top 40, recorded at 3 of the nations top recording studios in Asheville-Crossroads, Memphis-Ardent and New York City-Unique with some great national recording artists. I have worked alongside artists and bands such as Y & T, Doc Holliday, Black Oak Arkansas, Billy Thorpe, Billy Squire, Jimmy VanZant, Mark White of the Spin Doctors, Chuck Nyce, Dick Barnes, David Johnson and others. https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/keithbrooks. What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is my life. Since the age of four I knew that. It gives me satisfaction, comfort, memories, accomplishment and the list goes on. I relate almost all memories in my life with a song from that particular time or circumstance

What is your music dream?

I would love to hear my songs on the radio and have people enjoying them. I would like to play at least one coliseum concert. I have played before 10k, it whet my appetite to play live.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would want to see the head of the snake of evil and wickedness done away with.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

OMG, I have so many. Probably the most memorable would be He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother by The Hollies or It Don’t Matter To Me by Bread. Both really hit my soft spot for whatever reason I don’t know, but they always take me back in time and touch my heart.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Growing up, Grand Funk Railroad. Currently and for years, 38 Special

What inspires you to make music?

Whatever I can find to motivate, tell a funny, angry, hurtful, loving story, or a random collection of just words with good music. Weird I know but, I do write a lot about how I would feel if I were in a particular persons shoes.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I want to write about large and small things that happen in life. Riding a horse, eating an apple, to getting married, children, challenges, temptations, getting hurt, feeling angry with someone or at something, life changes, losing our loved ones and friends in death. I want to touch life with my music and tell people about adventures whether fact or fiction.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Total comfort and contentment and satisfaction.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Music today has to fit into the mold of the higher powers. Indie music is freeness of speech and expression of YOUR music without others infringing on your personal expressions. Country all sounds the same, too many metaphors. We need to get back to simple things. What ever happened to love songs?

What do you think of Drooble?

I absolutely love drooble so far. I am new to it but I fancy the idea of being in a market of contemporaries who will give support and honest yet kind constructive criticism or counsel.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Getting older

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I listen to so much. I can’t go out as much as I used to but online is a way to offer commendation of other’s songs.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Be adaptable yet creative. Remember, playing music is enjoyed by you, BUT others have to listen to it. Cater to their needs and/or wants while pampering yours. MAKE YOUR MUSIC YOUR FAVORITE, BE YOUR BEST FAN. It’s hard to convince someone if you don’t seem convinced yourself that your music is awesome.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Dixie Still, Evan Olsen, The Muckrackers (acoustic, not the metal band), actually Kieffer Sutherland is awesome, Black Glass, No Love Lost
