John Jardin

Bio

I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa on the 25th July 1979. My father, Anthony Jardin, was a musician at the time. In my youth I would dabble with piano and keyboards, but it was not until the age of 13 when I committed to learning the guitar. After taking Spanish guitar lessons for a few months, I started writing my own songs. By the time I turned 18, I had over 20 songs with lyrics in my head and on fragments of paper. During high school I also picked up the knack for DJ'ing and even started DJ'ing for clubs by the age of 15. The genre music I played was primarily focused around Dance and Trance House. By the age of 21, I had written over 30 songs. Most of my music favoured heavy metal, with a few rock ballads. At the age of 26 I joined a rock band called "Stone The Free". This was the first official band that I was a part of. We had gigged at multiple clubs and venues. Around 2 years later the band broke up for personal reasons. It's now around 10 years later, and whilst I have written a lot more songs over the years, I am only officially starting to produce and record my work.

Absolutely. I do what I can for the local scene, whether it's just been a "roadie", a "fan", a "collaborator" or "educator". I do what I can.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Collaborate. Build a network and give to others before asking or taking. Build trust and loyalty. If your music is a reflection of who you are and people love who you are, then you are on your way. You might just have to make sure you're writing good music ?
