Jo-Nathan McLean

Story

I love music, I love life and I love people in my own way. I am very bi-polar and sometimes life turns upside down for me and perspective can get a little awry. I look forward to the interactions on this page where we talk about music.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is my life. I was created and placed here to make music. My music, in all of its varied form speaks of peace, not from without but from within.

What is your music dream?

I am living my music dream I am retired, I have a full studio in my living room where I sit and practice, compose, record and learn to engineer.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I already did that...I changed me.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Do you remember that time in September when life was cold yet Oh so mellow, if you remember then try to remember and follow. It had a lilting melody. Needless to say, I do not abide such a foolish thought as that now.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

I have a lot of influence from a lot of musical genre but I must say that besides myself, Steve Vai, Joe, Satriani, Zakk Wilde, Paul Jackson, Eddie Hazel, Jimi Hendrix...this could turn into a very long list...

What inspires you to make music?

It is in my soul, like the very breath I breeze, music is it's own inspiration and if we listen it is also a great composer.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I send the vibe of peace, prosperity and well being, these are also the words of prayer that I speak over people.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

I transform into someone else for that time period. I never knew why. I have the worst butterflies until the first song starts, I have a large personality and I do bring a wall of sound with me.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Nowadays we have a lot more control and a lot more say so but at the heart of this new opportunity must be the willingness to do the work necessary.

What do you think of Drooble?

I love this platform. I speak highly of this platform to all I encounter where the conversation is about being a musician or artist.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

I am well past that. My failures were caused by my inexperience, carelessness and not knowing yet from these three things come wisdom and understanding...I make music for me. I often wish to share my works with the world but at the end of the day, I wrote that for me. I do not like todays music, I do not like the anger and unrest it causes, I despise the promulgation of drug use, woman abuse in all it's forms, the way it steals hope from the youth in order to incarcerate the broken down masses...I make music that makes you feel good, makes you happy for all of the right reasons. My mixing may suck sometimes but my heart is in the right place.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

No. I find very few things entertaining nowadays, in fact I tend to find too much fault but my wisdom is to let people be who they are and no, just because I am in Rome does not mean that I have to do as the romans do.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I am not the possessor of an answer to a question such as that. I would hope and think that a musician who is attempting such as that first understands what he or she is asking for and the total, self sacrificing commitment required to even get in the line of other artist who have come before for the self same reason...be prepared!

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.
