JMYTCH

Story

JMYTCH has wanted to make music ever since he was able to remember. At the age of 5, he heard his mother humming and begged her to show him how to make “that noise” as he called it. “I would always hear her making this beautiful noise that reminded me of something very familiar to me.” With age he learned that she too enjoyed music and sang to herself all the time while carrying him in her belly. In HS, JMYTCH auditioned for AMERICAN IDOL in 05’-06’. He was a kid with a dream, chasing the competition to Nashville, TN back up to Minneapolis, MN. Although he didn’t make it far into the competition, he auditioned for two more years after that. With each audition, JMYTCH gained the confidence to sing in other competitions in his city. He’s performed in statewide competitions for his HS, and has been written about in his county’s newspaper. JMYTCH has also made a special Guest appearance at BVHS for their first Back 2 school jam, performed at THE MIRAMAR, TEXTURE NIGHT CLUB and the HARLEY DAVIDSON’ STAGE. These performances were also networking experiences for him to meet other local talent as well as write for some major and upcoming artists and networks. Collabing’ with artists like Crystal Ranae, TOBEN and LORIAL2LYRICAL, he’s attained the No. 1 SPOT on the Reverbnation Pop Charts for Wisconsin as well as the top 100 for the nation and the top 200 for the globe.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music to me, is a memory that brings happiness—something that evokes us to become present. It gives me a safe-space to be my true self.

What is your music dream?

My dream is to become a chart-topping performing artist. I’d like to also like to create an agency by indie artists for indie artists, that protects them and their content.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I’d start with taking the politics out of music.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Brandy Norwood’s I wanna be down

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight & Brandy

What inspires you to make music?

My life experiences for sure inspire me to write music. But most importantly, music inspires me to write music, only because music writes itself. I’m just the interpreter.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I actually want to convey a feeling of familiarity, calmness and safety. This is what I feel when I hear music, and through my art, I want the listener to feel those exact feelings.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

In the past I was always anxious before performing as well as during my sets. Now, it’s about having fun and making sure the audience is having a great experience. Through that, I no longer experience that anxiety, nor does the audience feel that from me. I want the audience to feel as if we’re already a family, which makes me perform better and connects me to each member in the room.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

Commercial Streaming services could be improved. Paying us our worth is what allows us to give great content to these services. Crappy song, crappy payout. Great song, great payout. On the same token, with major labels being out of the way, there is more opportunity for us, the indie artists—to level the playing field a bit.

What do you think of Drooble?

So far, Im enjoying my experience here on DROOBLE. Just need an app!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

What frustrates me the most is major musicians not working with local musicians, or just reaching back to pour into the local scene.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I love local music here in my city. I support by advertising local shows and competitions for musicians as well as sharing their content. I also show up to local events the artists are having in my city, as well as ask the artists what it is that I can do as an indie artist to show my support.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Accessibility as well as being personable are the top qualities for me in my opinion.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

Crystal Ranae, TOBEN & LoRial Lyrical
