What is music to you? What does it give you?

An identity; a lifestyle; a livelihood; a passion; a purpose; a partner; a devotion; a sacrifice; a goal; a meaning; a prayer; an invocation; a coming together; spirituality; a God; light one can rely on; an amplifier for all things good and a balm and/or accelerant for all things bad.

What is your music dream?

Endless Flow State, to create something that can be dug at the deepest levels, and play every gig like it's your last night on earth.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Myself

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Queen Innuendo. Endless wonder at what was happening

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Rory Gallagher for what he did live. Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd for what they did in the studio. The Smiths, Manics and Joy Division for the way they dissected cultural, social and personal ills fearlessly. Charlie Parker for reaching and exhibiting the pinnacle of musicianship (and musical obsession!), Miles Davis for his imagination, John Coltrane for his curiosity, wonder and endless search, pushing the outer limits. Esperanza Spalding for expressing these characteristics (modern iteration). Different day, Different answer.

What inspires you to make music?

The kindness of others. The sheer malevolence of others.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

"Be Pure, Be Vigilant, Behave"

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

At ease. Home.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

No more difficult than everybody's reality. Always a shifting landscape. Risk is a constant. Embrace Risk.

What do you think of Drooble?

So far I like it a lot. LIke its theme, feel, ethos and I like what it's dragging out of me in these questions.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Find it hard to find people to my match work ethic.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

As much as I can. That is vitally important, and a great way to open your ears up to new people, and refine your own chops, to see how people are reacting to your own environment. I go to gigs. I try to buy when I can, be that CDs, gig tickets, downloads etc. I try to encourage people at all levels. Music is very important, we are forgetting that.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Persistence and work ethic. A willingness to accept it is no longer 1993, the landscape and the archetypes that stood up for so long have shifted considerably. There is less money in the conventional industry but there is so much opportunity online. We should embrace it. It takes work though. You have to embrace the world you live in and hold out for the digital apocalypse.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

I like to point people to Morphine (the band ?). Many have no idea who they are but they were one of the better and most important Seattle Scene bands. Similarly killing Joke, Mike Patton's lesser known projects perhaps, Tomahawk come to mind, British Sea Power. Maybe that's not obscure enough, Barbara Lynn is interesting to me. Mostly I'd encourage people to uncover their own gems and don't be too dismissive, avoid the cooler than thou mindset perhaps.
