James

Story

James became fascinated with music since a toddler when his father would constantly play records all day and evenings. He started playing stand upright classical bass at age 9 and took off from there learning piano, drums and percussion and guitar as well. After playing in over fifty bands over the course of decades he now own his own music studio he can create, produce and publish himself. Every sound, note, effect and beat is pored over meticulously and thoroughly until he gets it fine tuned precisely as wanted. He even uses distortion as a way of emphasis to get across deep and intense emotions. James will spend ten hours a day every day sometimes until he gets just the right sound desired and does not publish until the master track is adjusted perfectly. Thank you for listening to my art.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music is everything

What is your music dream?

To be played on KEXP

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Every song from Dark Side of the Moon. My Father played it almost daily.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Currently ODESZA is my biggest inspiration but that changes. I love The Chain Gang of 1974, Hatchie, Gorillaz, Mr FijiWiji, NAVVI, Skindred, Tom Waits, TOOL, Mike Shinoda and Joseph Trapanese among others.

What inspires you to make music?

It fascinates me the emotions that can be generated by music. I love how one person can tell me my music makes them feel something and someone else tells me it makes them feel something else.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Feel the music whether it's mine or someone else. Let it take you where it will and ride it all the way.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

This isn't important to me if I have a large audience or none. True musicians aren't doing this for the fame or the money as the main priority. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't turn that away but it's first and foremost about expressing yourself through the medium. This is a canvas and you are the artist. Make something YOU want not someone else. Be your biggest fan!
