Music career

I started my music career in France as a percussionist in samba band ‘Bunda Blanca’ and tribal band ‘Woodskank’. We played local shows and festivals around France including ‘Musique métisse’ and ‘fête de la bd’. During some of that time I also attended the LaJudie drum school based in Limoges. After moving to the UK I joined a Britpop cover band ‘Morning Glory’. With a repertoire of around 80 songs we played local shows and did a couple of small UK tours. When Morning Glory eventually disbanded, I joined Hentai Babies - a heavy & energetic pop-rock band. During my time in the band, our songs got played on BBC Introducing The South, BBC radio 6, and InterFM (Tokyo’s biggest radio station). We played at BBC Introducing in Sussex which featured a radio interview, and toured Japan for 10 days. This also included an interview on InterFM. I’d been writing songs for a little while by that point and decided to start my own project and front it. Sexy Pretty Things was born. After months of being a band, we hit the studio and recorded ‘Moose Knuckle’ - An EP with 4 very different tracks on it. From the EP we got featured on BBC Introducing The South, and got to open for bands like Pulled Apart By Horses, Weirds, and The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing. We’ve also played numerous stages at the Isle Of Wight festival for the last 3 years. The first single ‘I Just Wanna Have Fun’ is also getting played around the world by New Jersey band The Front Bottoms (currently on Fuelled By Ramen). We’re currently working on recording an album which is due late summer 2018. I also currently play drums in a function band ‘The Rockafellas’. With the help of our agency, Hireaband, We gig multiple times a week often travelling across the UK to play weddings. We’re often praised for our high energy performances and wide range of material - over 100 songs and growing.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Like most people I think, music is a way for me to express myself in a way that I would never be able to achieve with words. It’s like an onion (and Shrek), it has a lot of layers.

What is your music dream?

Playing to a fan base internationally.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

A cup of coffee. Then I could think about what I would start with.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing. I don’t know why, it just brings back memories of a very early age.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Anyone who means what they play/say and puts on a damn good performance whilst doing so. Some of my all time favourites include The Front Bottoms, Blink-182, Black Light Burns, Eminem and Incubus.

What inspires you to make music?

Anger and monotony. It’s basically therapy..

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Music doesn’t have to be played in perfect time, in perfect tune, to a perfect backing track, with pristine production. Excuse me, but I want to feel the energy.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Excited, anxious & devilish..

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

A lot of people seem to want to ‘make it’ without getting their nails dirty. What happened to touring in shitty van with your mates? Yeah - probably venue closures..

What do you think of Drooble?

Hello Drooble you curious bitch. I’m new here and haven’t yet made my opinion, let me get back to you.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

The bitching that goes on between musicians about other bands/musicians.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I like to think so. Going to see local bands, putting on the odd gig, and buying their merch.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

Everyone has their own way of doing it. I think that keeping the promotion side of things original and having a lot of perseverance is a good start..
