Irena Kotvitskaya

Story

“AGATA” project was created in 2015 by Irena Kotvitskaya and Alexey Vorsoba in Minsk, Belarus as a duet. Ancient pre-Christian texts and authentic dialects have gained the unique sound due to the original author’s treatment. Belarusian song heritage is placed within modern musical context which includes minimalism, neo-classic and common European folk music forms (waltz, tango, salsa, milonga). Agata’s music is well-known to the audience outside Belarus. The last 10 years Irena and Alexey are participants of international projects (Switzerland, Ukraine, Poland). The duet participates in international festivals in Poland, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Russia and Norway. Musicians are the organizers of the festival named “Belarusian style” (Minsk, Belarus, 2016). Polish of origin, she was born in Lvov. The concentration camp in the childhood, then – the exile to Ural labor camp. She didn’t return to her home country. She had no children, but a lot of unspent love. Stepson Volodya and some children for whom she was a nanny became her family. She has taught us that the power lies in kindness and sympathy and that the most important thing is the life itself, hope and… music. It’s the music of emotional experiences and hopes of a mature man. The music of various fortune and turns of life, such as love and death, children and family, foreign land, war, joy in bad times and sorrow in good times.
