HANNAH and the MEEZ

HANNAH and the MEEZ

First of all, I am in Wick, Highlands...I get ideas, pursue them and end up with songs/tunes/lyrics etc. Some may call it music, I say, it's what I do in persuit of the next thing...I would not say I was and instrument player as such, but I make noises on instruments and records them layer by layer, track by track. HANNAH (my middle name) is the stage name, if you will. The MEEZ are also me, as I have no other people interested in what I do. I live in Caithness in the far north of Scotland...I have done a couple of gigs (freebies) in a karaoke style of my own stuff, and received some great compliments from some established musicians. This has prompted me to maybe (if anyone was interested) to assemble some others to become the MEEZ adding ideas into the musical pot! Honorary MEEZ have included my son James, friends - Issac Sutherland, Louise Brown and Sarah Wilkinson. I have a dedicated studio with rehearsal space for those interested in what I do as well as for those who just wish to practice and record... Thank-you for reading this...HANNAH and the MEEZ!

What is music to you? What does it give you?

Music gives form to the chaos in my head. Emotions, feelings, questions etc. From dark places to happy and free places...expression of what I see and what I have seen.

What is your music dream?

In a 'aim for the stars and reach the moon' way, a full on theatrical musical event with the story in song, linked by acted lead-ins. (it's in my head and I am writing it down).

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

Stop teachers teaching for targets, to tick boxes, to create droids, for the system!

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Sukiyaki (Ue o Muite Arukou)...it was different than the emerging Mersey sound...and my dad kept whistling the tune.

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

In order of discovery...Kinks, T-rex, Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Supertramp, Status Quo, AC/DC, O.M.D, Oasis,

What inspires you to make music?

Everything around me, something just triggers and I have to act on it...sometimes in the middle of the night, sometimes just driving to work. That is why I always have a recorder at hand. Some of these inspirations fizzle out and may rise again, but some just have to happen and so they do!

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Visualise your freedoms and act on them, avoid suits and all they stand for.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

If they have come to see me, I feel high and humbled. If they are there for the first time, I feel I have to give myself over to them, let them decide what they like and what they don't. I never force myself on anybody, be free relax and let it happen.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

There are those (like me) who see popular radio music as 'to perfect', 'to produced', lacks real feeling but exudes it all in an artificial way. Before the suits get their hands on the act/music/song the creation, the splintering is there, until one day you are making music for others and not yourself...creative freedom is put into boxes for a dollar!

What do you think of Drooble?

I think drooble is by far the most friendly reactive platform I have used. With it's facebook feel and it's targeted audience it will, if it keeps it's core ethics and codes 'go global'. And with it, will come even greater opportunities in the entertainment business.

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Getting my music heard, commented on, as well as trying to find like minded people to work with.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I am involved with theatre and our theatre is a venue for musicals and music acts. I have my own recording studio and give free time to those who I feel are serious to record there...

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I am slow to take up tech stuff, as I feel it takes me away from the creative side of making the music...but time must be given to the intenet and all it offers, to get your musical creations across to the audience and potential fan base. Living in a remote part of Scotland has it's benfits of space but lacks venues to be heard.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

HANNAH and the MEEZ...lol...that's why I'm here...seriously though, Andrew Perry...who is not doing stuff anymore and John Prior, who is, but does not believe in his talents...(we have all been there).
