Music is an incredibly powerful and beautiful gift to humankind. It has the ability it’s to express exceedingly more than what mere words can capture. It’s unbound by language and connects people in ways nothing else can. When used the right way, music can edify the soul, and I believe God gave us the gift of music and the means to create for this very outlet. When I was growing up, music was my outlet. It give me a place to belong and kept me out of trouble. Now that I’ve overcome some things by the power of God and God alone, I am using the musical gifts He gave me to express my gratitude to Him and hopefully point people to the amazing grace of Jesus Christ.
To share the gift of music with others is rewarding enough to me! To get to the end of my life and still have a passion for music making, and then after, making it to heaven and being apart of the glorious sound of worship would just be amazing!!
One heart. The root of the problems in this world stem from a sick heart. The Bible says our hearts are deceptively wicked, and we love the darkness. So when we “follow our hearts” and live in darkness, people parish. If we all could understand that the One who created our hearts and our very being has a higher plan and purpose beyond what we can accomplish on our own. If everyone could humble themselves to allow the power of the gospel to change them, our world would be very different. By starting with one person’s heart, that influence can effect the entire world. Showing love and pouring into one individual is so needed in a world where it’s so easy to feel alone and unloved. Making that one person feel special makes a huge difference.
Oh no, ONE song?? Man, I went through phases of different music I liked, it’s tough to pick one…but the one that really shows how much of a dork I was, I would put it on repeat when I was alone in my room, is “Mister Roboto” by STIX. I remember dancing and lipsyncing to that song so many times.
I love a large variety of music. Currently I like listening to Charity Gayle, Wolves at the Gate, and Lecrae.
Jesus. That’s it. LOL I’ve been involved in creating secular music in the past and found it evokes nothing profitable - I used to get anxiety, sexual desires, rage, and just uncontrollable emotions all while still feeling empty trying to fill the void with it. When I made a decision to serve the Lord and do right, and that included my music, I was completely delivered and set free from those things. Like I said, music needs to be applied the right way to be effective, and I will be the first to testify, that being an instrument for righteousness is no comparison and completely worth it rather than wasting time on fleeting, meaningless songs that don’t lead to true life.
Jesus will set you free!! We are all guilty of sin and deserve hell, but Jesus made a way so we won’t have to go there. Trust in Him, because it’s a matter of your eternal destiny. And even in this life, He’s ready and willing to make you whole, to deliver you from bondage, to forgive you and set you free from an eternal hell, and give you a greater purpose in this life than you could dream. He did it for me, He will most certainly do it for you!
I’ve been fortunate to have had many experiences performing, and at this rate, I don’t really get nervous anymore, I see it as an opportunity to minister to people. More importantly, I know I am not singing/performing FOR people, I sing for my Savior. The focus is not on the performance, it’s on Him doing something beyond what I can do on my own. So I put my feelings aside, I don’t worry about how it sounds, I just give it my all and sing/play from the heart , and enjoy the experience while its happening and believe God to impart something of supernatural value in the hearts of the audience.
(Wow these are super awesome questions) Generally speaking, both musicians and how people look at musicians is completely backwards. For the musician, there is way too much focus on self…self promotion, self- centered songs, and a lifestyle that follows it. Music is a selfless service. When that is not understood, it produces an audience that will also become selfish because the spirit behind the music is directly effecting them. I believe music should always be edifying, not filled with the self gratifying superficial garbage that is in a lot of the popular music across every genre.
Well, I’m new and just checking it out, so I don’t know much about it now, ask me later.
Not being challenged. I want to learn from other like-minded musicians and sometimes it’s a lone wolf gig at this point in my life.
Not really.
Selflessness... a humble surrender to the fact that the world is not about you, and a right spirit behind their voice/playing. You can FEEL some one’s spirit behind what music they make, and you can tell how much effort and passion they put into their work. When the music’s message is profound and interesting/skillful musical decisions are implicated, that should be honored and be given an audience to experience that.
If you don’t know Wolves at the Gate yet, I highly recommend them! They’re my current favorite band.
