Played snare drum in grammar school - learned how to read music. Bought a drum set six years ago and taught myself to play by listening and playing to cover songs. Met Jim a guitar player about six months ago (through our plumber believe it or not) and we hit it off. We tend to be most productive when starting off with a beat I've recorded (I have made a library of them). Jim and I will listen to several recorded beats and when Jim finds one he likes, he just ....plays.... I follow along with something that ADDS to his melodies. I feel like I have good instincts for playing drums to music I hear and I just simply follow those instincts. Oh, I'm 55 years old. Looking forward to recording much of the material we've collected so far - we have over 20 melodies that seem to be worthy of more consideration. I must say that playing with Jim has brought out some of the best in my playing - I do believe. We never really discuss what we are going to be playing before we begin and that makes it fun. I am a freelance artist and collaborating on ANYTHING was never something I even considered until I decided to take up playing but so far it's been a fantastically fulfilling endeavor; learning to work with another artist that is. My whole goal when I'm playing is to make the music sound more interesting; that is my part. I want to give it more life than it had before.
Playing music - it signifies the beginning of another chapter of my life....
To get EVERYBODY up and dancing and partying whenever we hit the floor
Using our music to convey peace and love to the people of the world
Superstition by Stevie Wonder. I listened to that little 45 record a million times over - again and again - and then I listened to it a million more times....
Motorhead, Gamma, Thin Lizzy, funk and disco acts of the 70's, Zeppelin ACDC - I love aggressive, energetic music and tasty guitarwork.
Playing with other people is what I love the most. I have been an artist for most my life so it was unusual for me to consider sharing the creation of something with another artist. But instead I have most enjoyed the whole concept of working with others on a common goal.
Enjoy!
Pure ecstasy. No way to compare anything else.
Not enough though put into creating a catchy groove first. The musical aspect is set aside so they can promote - instead - the image they want to project. Any music that doesn't contain music (rap - I'm looking your way!) is just not musical and ain't for me! I gotta start with a good melody - something that reaches everyone.
Love it so far. I especially enjoy the way this site promotes the music "community" aspect. You must become aware of the other members and you find lots of great music when you do so. Some really good feedback - and having the opportunity to get fellow musicians to critique your work - it's great.
Nothing yet
I try to get out to see live music whenever possible. Vegas has an outstanding local scene - just need more ventures to play at
Must understand how to "build up" a song - how to
