Carl Stevens

Story

I recreate and build on the sounds that play in my head. Most of it is instrumental. I hear chords, melodies, and rhythms, not lyrics. Emotion is the primary driver. I've been influenced by many transcendent musicians, but I don't mind veering away from standard song structures. I try to let songs take on the form they require. My all-time favorite artists include Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Mozart, and Willie Nelson. I also grew up listening to a lot of Southern gospel and blues. I'm currently very into Nils Frahm and Caterina Barbieri. I've had the privilege to learn from them all. Take care - Carl Contact: [email protected]

What is music to you? What does it give you?

It gives me peace, whether a particular song is peaceful or not. I just have to do it.

What is your music dream?

To share, understand, and connect with people through music.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I'll have to think on this one. So many options.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

Seven Spanish Angels

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Jimi Hendrix, Deadmau5, Miles Davis, Mozart, Zero 7, Bonobo, Pink Floyd, Willie Nelson, Leonard Cohen, Parliament Funkadelic, and so many others.

What inspires you to make music?

I don't really have a choice. I go crazy, or I make music. Technically, that's a choice, but it's not a hard one.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

I don't know. I share whatever is in me when I write. I just hope others connect with it.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Scared shitless.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I'm new to putting music out there for the world to hear, so I have no insight on this.

What do you think of Drooble?

Seems pretty good so far!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

Not having as much time as I'd like to work on music. Or, having an idea and losing it before I can get it down. Both suck.

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

I've always gone to local venues and I usually buy whatever they're selling - even when the music isn't all that great.

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

I wish to hell I knew.

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.
