Originally self taught. After playing in several bands had limited success with the (South African) Zombies. With Female singer changed name to 4 Jacks and a Jill, and had a few hit records, one of them (Master Jack) international. After leaving joined night club bands, backing cabaret (sometimes on bass). Bored with pop material studied classical guitar with Uliano Marchio, Dr. Howard Nock (who put me through my teachers diploma- LTCL in 1977) and David Hewitt. In the early 90's started teaching classical guitar at Natal Technikon's Academy of music. When they changed focus to jazz, I stayed on teaching guitar, and at various times harmony, arranging and recording. Decided to do their course myself (whilst still teaching) and got my diploma with 27 distinctions and 21 letters of merit. In 1999 also started teaching part time at Crawford Preparatory school (guitar, theory and class music), after 3 years became full time and left Technikon. After retirement I stayed on as guitar teacher. In 2002 started playing guitar for The Dockyard Supper Theatre, doing a wide range of tribute shows- from ABBA to Z Z Top. Was musical director also playing guitar, bass and (once) keys. Notable shows were ABBA (3 runs), Santana (3 runs) The Bee Gees (2 runs) Sinatra, Davis and Martin (2 runs) and Masters of rock. Over the years have appeared many times with the KZNPO symphony Orchestra on electric guitar for their "popular" shows, once on banjo for the centenary of George Gershwin's birth, and once on mandolin. Currently I play guitar for a 6 piece band The Handsome Devils. I also have a duo with long time musical partner and singer Stuart Mey called The Elderly Brothers (for those of you not old enought o get it, a pun on The Everly Brothers. ;-)
